Security / Check-In Procedure
First Christian takes the safety of children very seriously. Each volunteer or paid worker undergoes a criminal background check and must be a member of FCC or a regular attendee for six months before being allowed to serve in the Children’s Ministry. Guidelines and polices are in place to ensure that your child is well cared for in a uniform and consistent way.

REGISTRATION FORM
Each family must fill out a registration form. This form is easy to fill out and contains general information about you and your child that will allow us to care for and meet the needs of your family. You can print one off here or ask for one at the check-in stations. Once the information is turned in, we will input your information into our security database. This information is in our database so your child can be checked into the children’s area and attendance can be recorded.

CHECK-IN STICKER SECURITY SYSTEM
Each parent must check-in their child weekly and will receive two stickers. One is to be placed on your child and the other is retained by the parent to show the security volunteers when checking your child out of the children’s area. Those in the nursery and toddler rooms can receive additional tags for diaper bags and bottles. These stickers also serve as a paging system. At any time that your child is in our care and needs your attention we will place the number on the screen in the worship center. If you see your child’s number, please respond to the appropriate Children's Ministry area to attend to your child’s needs. Please note that the numbering system is random and will change every time you check your child into our system.

PRESCHOOL DROP OFF POLICY
After checking your child in, parents of nursery and preschool aged children may take their children directly to their age-appropriate classroom and should also pick them up at the same classroom. There is one entrance and one exit door to the Early Childhood Department. There is not a specific playground monitor so do not leave your child in the playground area unattended. If a you wish to wait for their child’s teacher and monitor your own children in the playground area, that is fine after the area has been opened. Whenever you check-in your child into an Early Childhood program the parents must stay on site in their own worship, ABF class or small group.

ELEMENTARY DROP OFF POLICY
After checking your child in, parents of elementary students can either drop their children off in the appropriate classroom or they may be left in the recreational area. A monitor will be there if the doors to the elementary area are open. The recreation area will NOT be open until 15 minutes before first service on Sunday mornings. Also, the recreation area will close 15 minutes after the last service is over on Sunday mornings. There is also one entrance and one exit for the Elementary Department.

DISCIPLINE PROCEDURES
All of our volunteers are instructed to use consistent and age-appropriate techniques to diffuse any potential behavior problems. Redirection, structured classrooms, positive reinforcement, and the child's knowledge of rules and expectations are just some of the techniques that will be used. However, if a child continues to struggle in making good choices the teacher/volunteer will explore the following options:

  • the child may be taken off to the side or removed from the classroom to make sure the child clearly understands the expectations/ rules
  • removal of a toy/privilege
  • time out for appropriate length of time (one minute per child's age)
  • older children may be removed from the classroom and their behavior discussed with them. The purpose of this is to find out his/her's goal in behaving in such a manner. Natural / logical consequences for their actions may be discussed.

If a child continues to act out or if there is an extreme situation (child is "out of control", harming a volunteer or child, or destroying FCC property) the parents will be immediately notified through the number paging system and asked to take their child with them for that day.
